Q. Is there anything I have to do before I bring my PC in?

A. There are a few things to make sure that the repair is completed successfully.

1. Backup ALL sensitive doucments. XSR-Computers cannot be held responsible for any information lost during repair. It is vital that you keep a copy of all of your documents.

2. Change your main Windows login password to 'password'. This means that the XSR Computer technicians can use your computer.

3. Any other admin passwords should also be changed to 'password'. If your BIOS has a password, please disable it.

Failure to do these may cause delay in repairing your PC.

4. Set your screen resolution to 1024x768. This makes sure that your PC desktop is usable by XSR Computers staff.

 

Please do not hesitate to call if you have any problems with these tasks.

 

Q. Can you fix my PC on-site?

A. Yes, this is possible, providing that no extensive repair is neccessary. Our prefered method is to repair your PC at our office, where we have access to all of our diagnostic tools that provide us with the information to fully repair your PC. On-site repair takes longer, and there is no guarentee that the problem can be solved and will cost more. There is a callout fee for on-site PC repair.

 

Q. Can you pickup my PC?

A. Yes we can, for a small fee of £5. Only available in the Vantage Point Business Village area.

 

Q. Can you install a component bought from another supplier?

A. Yes we can. The both the componenent and the software can be installed. We install components from any supplier, including ourselves.

 

Q. What is the turn-around for repairs/service?

A. We aim to repair/service your PC within one day. Service tasks normally can be returned same-day depending on PC spec and other factors.

 

Q. What is OEM?

A. OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. There are a few rules to bear in mind when purchasing an OEM product.

a) If it is software, e.g. Windows XP Home/Professional then the product must be supplied with an integral part of the system on which the software will run. This can be something as simple as a power cable, or as complex as a motherboard.

b) Hardware has different rules. OEM hardware will not have the retail packaging (supplied in a brown box) and will not have a warranty with it. Other than this, the product is EXACTLY the same as the retail version only less expensive.
